Where does your donation and adoption fee go? How does HEART use funds? Alostar is one example of how HEART helps animals in need.

Alostar was bitten by a dog in the eye and his eye was punctured. His caretaker's left him in a box by a dumpster - apparently they thought that was a good solution for a dog that needed medical care. He was found by a good Samaritan who took him to a local shelter. He desperately needed surgery and the shelter's vet was not available. HEART was called to see if we could help. Who wouldn't?

Alostar was in great spirits and other than being nervous about his face being touched, was absolutely wonderful! We took him to Dr. Trey Rodgers, of Veterinary Express Mobile Clinic where he was neutered and had his eye removed. He went home to his foster mom and was nursed back to health.

After two weeks Alostar's stitches were removed and he was declared ready for adoption. He began attending adoption events in October of this year and waited for the right person to find him. Lots of folks thought he was cute, but few were willing to consider a dog missing an eye. Alostar was still wary of being touched on his head and was a bit snippy at times- this also turned people away. The foster family was patient with him and HEART waited until the right family stopped by.

In late October his new mom found him. B.J. took one look at his adorable face and fell in love! "How could anyone reject such a precious creature", she asked. "I think he's the most beautiful dog I've ever seen! I've got a dog at home that would love to have a playmate and I'd love to add another member to my family!"

B.J. adopted Alostar and he began his new life. He adjusted quickly to his new family and new surroundings. His mom took him to obedience training at PetsMart and he graduated at the top of his class!

Alostar is going to have a great Christmas in his new home with a family that loves him and, just as important, will keep him safe for the rest of his life. A lifetime commitment to a dog or cat is what it's all about!

If you'd like to make a donation to HEART to help us continue the great work we do with dogs and cats that need more than just a spay or neuter, make your check out to HEART and send it to P.O. Box 897, Youngsville, NC 27596 or online. Your donations are what make success stories like Alostar possible!
