When Timmy came to us he couldn't walk. He hopped like a bunny. He had been evaluated by veterinarians and nothing could be found, either muscular or neurological. Our theory is that he may have been confined to a crate from a very early age and his muscles just never developed properly. He had such a winning personality that we had to try to find a home for him. One of HEART's foster moms, Joyce, was especially taken with Timmy and took him home with her. Every day Joyce worked with Timmy, massaging his muscles. After just a couple weeks Timmy could stand on his back legs and would actually take a few steps. Encouraged by his progress, Joyce continued the massage therapy and even enrolled Timmy in swim therapy. With the improvements to Timmy's mobility, Joyce began bringing him to our
adoptathons. It wasn't long before Timmy found his forever home. Many people would have given up on a puppy with a disability. We all grew to love Timmy and it was bittersweet when he found his forever home. We at HEART are proud of the dedication and love that Joyce showed with Timmy. I'm sure she would tell you that it's nothing special, that she would do that for all her "fur kids" but her treatment of Timmy is what makes our volunteers and foster parents special. Thanks, Joyce and have fun at your new home, Timmy! |
